our lifestyles are killing us

something happened in the last couple of weeks to yet another of my relatively well-to-do tech friends that solidified a thought I've been having for a while and is by no means original – the lifestyles that we've chosen for ourselves are quite literally killing us, mentally and physically

the cities we choose to live in, the focus on work as a source of meaning or even a cogent good, the way we date, obsession (of any level) with material gains, all of it is like a disease that slowly eats away at people until they give up.

it is very important to me that I opt out and go my own way, but I am not sure how or that it would be better.
